Das Weiße Haus hat mittlerweile eine Erklärung zum jüngst vom Repräsentatenhaus mit überwältigender Mehrheit verabschiedeten Gesetzesentwurf (H.R. 985) für einen besseren Whistleblowerschutz veröffentlicht. Darin heißt es:
If H.R. 985 were presented to the President, his senior advisors would recommend that he veto the bill.
The President now has the necessary authority to control the circumstances under which others receive classified and national security information to ensure such information is not disclosed or used in a way that would jeopardize national security. By vesting subordinate Executive branch officials with a right to disclose classified information outside of the Executive branch without receiving official authorization from the President or his official designee, the bill would impede the President’s necessary coordination function.
Davon wie der Präsident diese Koordinierungsfunktion ausübt, konnte man sich heute in einem Bericht von Frontal 21 über das völkerrechtswidrige Folterlager Guantanamo überzeugen. Aber wahrscheinlich ist es nicht im nationalen Sicherheitsinteresse der USA (oder zumindest nicht im Interesse des Präsidenten und seiner Unterstützer), dass immer mehr FBI Beamte über die wahren Zustände dort und die Verwicklung höchster Regierungsmitglieder auspacken.
